James Emmett Pierce Jr., 69, of the 3300 block of Courtney Road, a retired inspector, died March 31, 1995, in his residence.
He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He was active in the Churchland Little League and with Bethel Chapter (NU)48 of Jobe's Daughters and a member of the Bennetts Creek Ruritan Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy A. Pierce; a daughter, Shirley Pierce Ashburn and her husband Norman M. Ashburn Jr. of Portsmouth; a son, James Michael Pierce and his wife Cheryl Ann Pierce of Portsmouth; and five grandchildren, James Matthew Ashburn, Norman ``Sunny'' Ashburn III, Rachel Ann Pierce, Tyler L. Pierce and Jacob Michael Pierce.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, by the Rev. Dave Wade and Dr. Wasina F. Wright. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Bennetts Creek Rescue Squad or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 7804 Rutven Road, Norfolk, VA 23505.
