Alphonzo Charles Hassell, 77, of 107 Brewer Avenue, died April 1, 1995.
A native of Manteo, N.C., he was the son of the late Abner and Lillian Wise Hassell. Mr. Hassell had retired from the civil service at Ft. Monroe and formerly taught at P. D. Pruden Vo-Tech Center. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Toastmaster's Club. He was a past president and member of the Suffolk Cosmopolitan Club and past president of Cosmopolitan International.
Survivors include his wife, Lorena Dixon Hassell; a daughter, Diane H. Cuthrell of Suffolk; a son, Charles Hassell of Norfolk; two granddaughters, Logan and Lauren Cuthrell of Suffolk; and a sister, Sophia Fulcher of Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson. The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23439.
