W. Edward ``Eddie'' Fentress, 77, died April 1, 1995.
He passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness in Hillhaven at Virginia Beach. Eddie was born in Old Princess Anne County and later moved to Knotts Island. He was proprietor of Fentress Grocery in Pungo. He later became a waterman, hunting and fishing guide. He was a member of Pungo Church of God. He was the widower of Louise Daw Fentress and the son of the late James E. and Mary Fentress.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Lewark, and her husband, Tommy; two sons, William H. Fentress and his wife, Ann; and J.E. ``Jim'' Fentress and his wife, Marilyn; four sisters, Ruth Ewell, Estelle Neal, Ola Frances Bossuot, and Margaret Poff; two brothers, Roy L. Fentress and Henry F. Fentress; five grandchildren, Debi Read and her husband, Alan, Lynn Taylor and her husband, Al, Yvonne Cockrell and her husband, Steve, Linda Williams and her husband, Marty, and Jim Fentress Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 1995, in Oak Grove Baptist Church, 691 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. The Rev. Joseph Brewer and the Rev. Frank Jennings will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Knotts Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 115, Knotts Island, N.C. 27950.
