Josiah (Joe) Wesley Brinkley, 84, of 23076 Church St., died Sunday, April 2, 1995, at his home.
Mr. Brinkley was a native of Nansemond County and was the widow of Lucile Stephenson Brinkley. He was the son of the late William Jesse and Katie Saunders Brinkley. Mr. Brinkley was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Virginia Department of Highways after 39 years of service. He was a sergeant in the Army during World War II, serving in the 78th Infantry Division and was a longtime member of Capron United Methodist Church where he was head usher for many years. Mr. Brinkley was one of the founding members and past chief of the Capron Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith Rae Brinkley of Capron; one son, Robert Wesley Brinkley and his wife, Muriel of Richmond; one sister, Elizabeth Holleman of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Aaron Mock, Cassie Mock, Kevin Brinkley and Robbie Brinkley.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 1995 at the Capron United Methodist Church by the Rev. Louis Martin and the Rev. Durward Vaughan. The burial will be in Capron Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggests that memorials be made to the Capron Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad or Capron United Methodist Church. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is handling arrangements.
