BRIAN R. TWIDDY

Brian R. Twiddy, age 45, died Sunday, April 2, 1995, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Leslynn, and children, Brian Jr. and Olivia.

Brian was a wonderful man. His attributes are too numerous to mention. Brian was most widely known, however, for his love of people. He sought out friends and strangers who were unhappy or burdened and gave them the great strength of his presence and personality. He gave freely of himself, even as he battled his disease; he gave his air of calm gentility, his courage and his smile. Brian attacked the troubles of others as if they were his own. The Twiddy home has always been a happy home, the envy of the community. Brian's character is mirrored in his children. Brian and Olivia gave him incredible joy, and he gave them more in a relatively short time than some children receive in a lifetime.

An essay on Brian Twiddy is incomplete without mention of the game of golf. Brian was at the same time a fighter and a man at peace on the golf course. He was both a student of the game and a teacher, with many hours of joy spent helping his friends improve their game. In golf, as in life, Brian sought challenge, he never gave up the fight, and was the consummate gentlemen. In golf, as in life, Brian's principle was to ``make your best pass'' to experience life to the fullest.

Brian Twiddy loved his children, his wife, his friends, sports and the ocean. All of his joys involved bringing people together. For Brian Twiddy, relationships were life itself.

Brian is survived by his father, George Twiddy of New Bern, N.C.; his sister, Phyllis T. Staples of Williamsburg; and two brothers, Paul Twiddy of Rockhill, S.C., and Doug Twiddy of Nags Head, N.C.

Brian was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., and was a former resident of Nags Head before moving to Williamsburg. He was the founder and owner of Twiddy Realty Company and was a member of many organizations, Williamsburg Area Association of Realtors, Kingsmill Golf Club, the Kingsmill rep. for the Virginia State Golf Association, the American Cancer Society, and was a Shriner.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in St. Bedes Catholic Church by the Rev. William H. Carr. Burial will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in the memory of Brian R. Twiddy to the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center to be used for Colon Cancer Research, 1275 York Ave., New York, N.Y. 10021, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 323, Williamsburg, Va. 23185. Bucktrout Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Those who had the fortune to know Brian Twiddy are truly blessed.
