HERBERT SAUNDERS

Herbert George Saunders, a resident of Newport News since 1953, died Monday, April 3, 1995, at the age of 93. He was born in Cadoxton, South Wales, on Sept. 13, 1901.

He was employed as a surveyor for Lloyds Register of Shipping-Marine Department.

He was a member of the Vale of Blamorgan Masonic Lodge No. 3977, and a past member of the Institute of Marine Engineers, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Torch Club of Newport News, and the the Propeller Club-Port of Newport News.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nellie; his sons, William Young Saunders and his wife, Joke of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Robert Frederick Saunders and his wife, Carol, of Williamsburg, Va.; and three grandchildren, Bart, Rob, and Michelle Saunders.

A memorial service will be held at St. Matthews Anglican Church on Main Street in Newport News on April 6 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthews Anglican Church or Disabled American Veterans.
