The N.C. House of Representatives gave tentative approval Tuesday to a bill that would add a Dare County sand dune to the state park system.
The House voted 98-0 in favor of legislation that authorizes the purchase of Run Hill State Natural Area by the Natural Heritage Trust Fund Board of Trustees.
Under an agreement reached between the North Carolina Nature Conservancy and the Dare County Board of Education, this rare inland sand dune, owned by the school board, would be purchased for the state park system. The school board could then use this money to buy another parcel of land that would be appropriate for a new high school building.
The sand dune natural area has been appraised at $530,000. by CNB
