JANICE GAY-MAKER ARTIST

Norfolk artist Janice Gay-Maker - who works with oil pastels, soft pastels and oils - has exhibited her work throughout the area and in several East Coast galleries.

In addition, Gay-Maker's works are part of many corporate and private collections throughout the United States and Canada.

``Much of my work reflects landscapes colorative in nature,'' Gay-Maker said. ``They convey a sense of peace, tranquillity and provide one a place to escape.''

Gay-Maker has been interested in art since she was a child growing up in a Boston suburb. In high school, she was voted ``most artistic,'' and, after graduating from the Massachusetts College of Art with a bachelor of fine arts degree, she began exhibiting her work.

She has lived Norfolk since 1986 after relocating from her home state of Massachusetts. She now has a studio at the d'Art Center.

If you could trade places for just one day with anyone in the world, who would it be and why? It's taken me 10 years to change my karma - at this time I'm not ready to take on anyone else's.

Biggest accomplishment: Singing in a chorus with 1,000 people in the Honolulu, Hawaii, Cultural Festival. The event, and getting there, really had a profound effect on my life.
