The right of a citizen to walk in his neighborhood and shop in malls as well as visit a professional office without fear of violence, intimidation or harassment is a right that must be ensured by all levels of government.
Today, health-care facilities and abortion clinics are accessible with a greater degree of security due to legislation recently passed by our representatives in Richmond. The current law spells out jail time and fines for people convicted twice in three years of blocking access to these facilities.
Now in the face of the shooting at Hillcrest and the murders of doctors and their fellow service providers throughout the country, our governor proposes weakening and watering down this long-overdue law.
Governor Allen's time would be better spent enforcing the law and working with groups devoted to overcoming the causes of violence toward our fellow citizens.
