BROADWAY AND film stars Bernadette Peters and Joel Grey will headline the Virginia Symphony's 1995-96 season. The classical subscription series is filled with familiar repertoire and includes return appearances by violist Paul Neubauer and pianist Christopher O'Riley.

Subscription tickets are on sale now for all series at 623-2310. The orchestra's Mozart and More and Family series will be announced later.

Pops series: The orchestra has abandoned the Virginia Beach Pavilion Convention Center as a pops venue. Instead, each pops program will be performed twice at Chrysler Hall.

Sept. 15 and 16: Joel Grey, star of ``Cabaret'' and ``George M!''

Nov. 3 and 4: ``The Hunchback of Notre Dame,'' a silent film starring Lon Chaney, with live music conducted by Donald Hunsberger.

Dec. 1, 2, and 3: ``Yuletide Celebration'' with the Virginia Symphony Chorus and chorusmaster Donald J. McCullough.

Feb. 16 and 17, 1996: Bernadette Peters, star of ``Sunday in the Park With George'' and ``Pennies From Heaven.''

April 19 and 20: Flash Cadillac, rock band featured in the film ``American Graffiti.''

May 3 and 4: Skitch Henderson, former ``Tonight Show'' bandleader and ex-Virginia Symphony principal pops conductor.

Classical Masterworks: Music director JoAnn Falletta returns for her fifth season. All concerts in this series are at Chrysler Hall.

Sept. 8 and 9: Pianist Christopher O'Riley. Kodaly, ``Dances of Galanta.'' Beethoven, Piano Concerto No. 2. Sibelius, Second Symphony.

Sept. 29 and 30: Violist Paul Neubauer. Tchaikovsky, ``Romeo and Juliet.'' Bartok, Viola Concerto. Berlioz, ``Romeo and Juliet'' excerpts.

Nov. 10 and 11: Soprano Linda Hohenfeld. Mozart, ``Don Giovanni'' Overture. Schoenberg, ``Transfigured Night.'' Mahler, Fourth Symphony.

Jan. 19 and 20, 1996: Assistant conductor Andrews Sill, hornist Roman Vlatkovik. Peter Ware, ``Ancient Evenings.'' Richard Strauss, Horn Concerto No. 1. Schubert, Ninth Symphony.

Feb. 23 and 24: Pianist Tanya Stambuk. Stravinsky, ``The Fairy's Kiss'' Divertimento. Prokofiev, Piano Concerto No. 3. Tchaikovsky, Fourth Symphony.

April 5 and 6: Guest conductor Christopher Wilkins, the Virginia Symphony Chorus. Haydn, ``The Creation.''

April 26 and 27: Violinist Pamela Frank. Schuman, ``New England Triptych.'' Bruch, Violin Concerto No. 1. Debussy, ``Images.''

May 10 and 11: Guest conductor Kirk Trevor, cellist Wendy Warner. Butterworth, ``A Shropshire Lad.'' Bloch, ``Schelomo.'' Faure, ``Elegie.'' Rachmaninoff, Symphonic Dances.

May 24 and 25: Pianist Kirk Browning. Dvorak, ``Carnival'' Overture. Barber, Piano Concerto. Richard Strauss, ``Ein Heldenleben.''

Dance series: The Virginia Symphony is is the Chrysler Hall pit for visiting American companies.
