Mattie Belle Phelps, 78, of Clifford St., died April 4, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mrs. Phelps was a native of Etowah County, Ala., and a resident of Portsmouth since 1946. She was a member of West End United Methodist Church in Portsmouth.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence F. Phelps; a son, Randall V. Phelps Sr. of Windsor, Va.; two sisters, Pearlie Mae Brooks of Boaz, Ala., and Girthel Epps of Delta, Ala.; two brothers, James O. Chavies of Carrollton, Ga., and Elbert C. Chavies of Southside, Ala.; three grandchildren, Randall V. Phelps Jr., Pamela Yvette Roberts and Destiny Leigh-Ann Phelps; and a great-grandchild, Cheyanne Marie Oxendine.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Robert E. Hawkins and the Rev. Basil L. ``Buzz'' Ballard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
