COOL WEATHER, WIND KEEP ANGLERS AWAY FROM THE WATER

As predicted, weather conditions took a turn for the worse Wednesday, with winds increasing and temperatures falling. The water temperature along the northern beaches, 50.5 degrees several days ago, dropped to 47.5 degrees, too cold for any substantial fishing action.

Offshore fishing was at a standstill because of gusty winds and high seas. Piers throughout the area reported only a few people fishing and no action. Surf fishing along the northern beaches was almost impossible.

Down on Hatteras Island, however, some action was reported from the Buxton area. Scattered puppy drum were taken on cut bait along the beach at the foot of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Most of the fish were released, as they were under the 28-inch minimum limit. Anglers fishing on the south side of Cape Point landed some gray trout on artificial lures. Although the beaches south of the Cape were fishable, little action was reported.

The forecast indicates a warming trend over the next couple of days, but winds are predicted to remain fairly strong, and this will continue to keep fishing action at a minimum. by CNB
