Dollar Tree Stores Inc., the Norfolk-based discount variety store that recently went public, said its sales rose nearly 35 percent in the first quarter. Revenues increased to $48.7 million for the three-month period ended March 31, up from $36.2 million in the 1994 quarter. Same-store revenues rose 6.8 percent. Same-store sales, which represent revenues at stores open for at least a year, are considered a better barometer of a company's performance.
