PAUL E. WADFORD SR.

Paul Eugene Wadford Sr., 83, of the 2600 block of Village Ave., died April 4, 1995, in his residence.

A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mr. Wadford was the son of the late Rev. George C. and Blanche Key Wadford of Winston-Salem. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Novella W. Wadford, and a daughter, Lynn W. Cruey. He was a member of Avalon Church of Christ in Virginia Beach. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and had served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary Sawyer Wadford; a daughter, Nancy W. Pletka of Winamac, Ind.; two sons, Paul E. Wadford Jr. of El Paso, Texas, and Glenn Lane Wadford of Kuwait; four sisters, Frances Swaim and Mable Smith, both of Winston-Salem, Myrtle Wall of Los Angeles and Blanche Lundsgaard of Quincy, Mass.; a brother, Alfred Wadford of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren - three are daughters of Lynn: Kelly Smith, Kerry Emmons and Kammy Ceniceros - and Wesley, Brent, Kimberly, Glenn Jr., Shannon, Cathy, Roger, Kyle and Whitney; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in Avalon Church of Christ by Jimmy Bennett and Jim Jones. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements.
