A 15-year-old boy wanted in a fatal shooting March 1 was arrested and charged with murder Wednesday after a downtown chase, police said.
The youth's name was not released because he is a juvenile. He was charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Police had been looking for the youth in connection with the murder of Alonzo Bynum, 18, who was found in a hallway at 601 Jefferson St. with a chest wound.
According to a police report, Bynum, of the 500 block of Edwards St., died in a hospital March 8. No motive has been determined for the murder.
Police spotted the 15-year-old and a friend, Jerry Devon Atkinson, 21, about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday driving in the 1200 block of Frederick Boulevard and tried to stop them for traffic violations.
Atkinson, who was driving, refused to stop and the chase ensued through downtown to Martin Luther King Freeway, police said.
As the two reached the freeway, Atkinson lost control and the car spun to a stop, police said. The two jumped out and ran, but were caught by police a short time later.
One officer suffered a minor leg injury during the foot pursuit and was taken to a hospital.
Atkinson, of the 600 block of Seventh St., was charged with reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and attempting to elude police.
