DESPITE BROKEN NOSE, MEEK SCORED 27 IN FRIDAY NIGHT WIN

Due to production problems, some editions of Saturday's paper did not have Friday's Portsmouth Invitational Tournament results. We regret the omission.

Playing the second half despite a broken nose, Duke's Eric Meek powered Beach/ Barton Ford into the finals of the 43rd annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.

Meek racked up a game-high 27 points and hauled down 15 rebounds in leading Beach/Barton to a lopsided 92-68 semifinal victory over K-Plus Friday night in the Churchland High gym.

In the nightcap, Roderick Anderson of Texas drove for a three-point play with two seconds to play as Bill Lewis Chevrolet defeated Hoechst Celanese, 95-94. Old Dominion's Mike Jones rallied the losers with 20 points, missing a 28-footer at the buzzer.

In the afternoon consolation game the Portsmouth Sports Club, behind 22 points from Western Carolina's Frankie King and 20 from Alabama's Jamal Faulkner, downed Dolsey Ltd., 97-92. Kareen Townes of LaSalle topped Dolsey with 19. Norfolk State's Corey Williams had six points and four rebounds. by CNB
