SENIORS AND THE DREAM

After reading ``Senior citizens killing American Dream'' (letter, April 5), I can see why we are having so many problems in this country. Concerning the elderly, Bernice Levinson's allegations suggest she knows not of what she writes.

The average Social Security old-age-benefits recipient has paid into the program for at least 40 years at a rate of 6.05 percent, while his employer paid in another 6.05 percent for a total of 12.10 percent out of every paycheck.

If Ms. Levinson had done her homework, she would have found out that if it had not been for the elderly who fought the wars and contributed to the Social Security system, she would not have the ability to complain about her supposed lack of a chance at the American Dream!
