Edward C. Staten, 65, of the 1500 block of LaSalle Ave., a retired general helper, died April 10, 1995, at home.
Mr. Staten was born in Baltimore and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station after 21 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a former member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Victory Catholic High School and a member of its Alumni Association.
Survivors include his father, James Staten of Portsmouth; three sisters, Shirley Austin, Margaret L. Staten, both of Portsmouth, and Helen Cummings of Cleveland, Ohio; his stepmother, Sophia Staten; uncle, Leondias Campbell; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Catholic Church by the Rev. Joseph S. Slowik. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. today in Corprew Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of his sister, Margaret L. Staten, 2705 High St., Portsmouth, and will assemble there for the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Paul's Catholic Church.
