PROFITS JUMP 77 PERCENT AS ROSE'S REORGANIZES

Rose's Stores Inc. said its fourth-quarter earnings rose 77 percent as the Henderson, N.C.-based discounter continued to close stores and reorganize. Its net income rose to $3.7 million in the quarter ended Jan. 28 from $2.1 million a year earlier. Quarterly sales fell 40 percent to $223 million from $371 million because of closed stores. For fiscal 1994, Rose's lost $51 million compared with a $66 million loss a year earlier. The company is expected to emerge from bankruptcy protection later this month. (Staff) by CNB
