RIDING OUT A COOL SPELL

Robbie Gecse tests the surf at Virginia Beach. He's Canadian, so

Monday's highs in the mid-50s probably seemed warm to him.

After a weekend of warm-weather fun, Monday brought a cold dose of

reality to Hampton Roads. Temperatures hovered around 50 degrees for

much of the day because of a cold front that passed through at

daybreak. This after a high on Sunday of 86 - just 1 degree shy of

the record for that day. Temperatures should rise over the next few

days, reaching the lower 70s by Thursday, but this weekend might not

be as pleasant: a cooling trend is forecast to begin Friday.
