A Norfolk man was seriously injured Monday afternoon when the van he was driving crashed into a concrete median on Interstate 64 East between the Norview Avenue and Chesapeake Boulevard exits.
The man, who was not identified, apparently lost control of the 1989 Chevrolet van because of equipment failure, police said.
The van crossed three lanes of traffic and hit the left median at high speed.
The victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening head and chest injuries.
He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
