PLEASE, PRESERVE AND PLANT TREES

After reading about the plan for the removal of the trees along Interstate 64, then seeing the before-and-after pictures of Ghent in the paper, I was once again sickened.

The apparent lack of trees now, as compared to 1947, is a trend that must be stopped.

I am also seeing this happen in my hometown in North Carolina and wonder what in the world people are thinking . . . or are they thinking?

Just who are the masterminds who are allowed to make the decision to cut down trees along city streets and interstates?

Is it any wonder that respiratory problems are on the rise? I work in a pharmacy, and in the past 10 or 15 years have seen a considerable increase in the use of medications for respiratory problems. As most people know, trees and shrubs provide oxygen for our environment and help to cleanse our air.

Rather then destroy trees to accommodate our growing population, why not implement a mass-transit system that works and at the same time help to preserve the trees and the beauty of our land. We simply cannot keep building wider roads and more homes at the expense of clean air, water and a wholesome environment.
