TRUCK DOWNS RAILROAD WARNING LIGHT IN VIRGINIA BEACH

ILLUSTRATION: CHARLIE MEADS

Staff

A garbage truck toppled a railroad warning light Wednesday in the

Pembroke area of Virginia Beach and an illuminated street sign a

block away. The truck, from Waste Management of Hampton Roads, was

headed south on Independence Boulevard about noon when its forks hit

the overhang and the structure fell, blocking two lanes of

southbound traffic. Police, city traffic engineering employees and

Norfolk Southern workers arrived on the scene minutes after the

accident.
