HAMPTON ROADS favorites since opening a Boathouse show for the Ramones nearly a decade ago, New Jersey's Smithereens return to the roomy Norfolk venue at 9 p.m. Saturday. SATURDAY
ALTHOUGH SHE built her rep with a bluegrass fiddle and pristine vocals, it would be unfair to pigeonhole Alison Krauss, at 23 a two-time Grammy winner and a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Her retrospective, ``Now That I've Found You,'' shows why: It includes interpretations of Bad Company's ``Oh, Atlanta'' and The Beatles' ``I Will,'' and her gospel work with The Cox Family. It also promises a memorable evening Saturday in Virginia Beach. Alison Krauss and Union Station play at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Cavalier Ballroom. Tickets: $12; $15 at the door. Order at 671-8100.

TUESDAY
IF THE OSCARS are any indication, Jessica Lange gave the best performance no one saw - at least around here - as the scandalous Army wife of Tommy Lee Jones in ``Blue Sky.'' That will be rectified Tuesday when the movie arrives on video. It's a big week for Oscar-watchers. Due the same day are ``Ed Wood,'' which won a best supporting actor award for Martin Landau's portrayal of Bela Lugosi, and ``Quiz Show,'' which failed to win either the best picture or best director for Robert Redford.

THURSDAY
Talk about your roots. Bobby Blue Bland, Little Milton and Clarence Carter are sunk right on into the blues. Little Milton is into his fifth decade playing the blues. Bland had hits with songs that have since become classics, like ``Farther On Up the Road.'' And Clarence Carter is the voice behind ``Patches,'' the Top 10 ballad of a poor boy and his dying dad (``Patches, I'm depending on you, son'') that had the country weeping in 1970.
Hear them all wail at at the Spring Blues Fest, 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hampton University Convocation Center.
Tickets are $17 to $22, available at DJ's Music and Video Stores, Impulse Records in Hampton, and Bottom Beat Records in Newport News. Call 728-6800.
