FORTY YEARS OF LITTLE LEAGUE FUN

The Olive Branch Little League celebrated its 40th anniversary Friday with a reunion ceremony at the Little League complex in Simonsdale. Hundreds turned out as the festivities began with an afternoon barbecue. One of the oldest Little Leagues in the state, Olive Branch was among the first to be chartered in District 6 in the early 1950s. Official ceremonies started at 6 p.m. Adam Goldblatt, a participant in the league as a youngster and a member of the Olive Branch Senior Little League team in 1975 that reached the Southern Regional and was one win from becoming the only local team ever to reach the World Series, was master of ceremonies. A highlight of the program was the placing of a wreath in memory of former coaches now deceased. A Saturday night dance at the Naval Hospital gymnasium concluded the reunion.
