JAY O. POWELL

Jay O. Powell of the 500 block of Pennsylvania Ave., Norfolk, died at his residence on April 13, 1995.

He was the son of the late J.O. and Beatrice McHugh Powell. He was the husband of Velma Wood Powell who survives. Mr. Powell was a retired teacher from the Norfolk Public Schools. He was also an author, a photographer, an artist and a musician. He received his undergraduate degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., and his graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two nephews, three nieces and a host of friends and colleagues.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Powell donated his body to medical science. Twiford's Funeral Home, Ghent Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
