BUXTON MAN DIDN'T FILE 3 YEARS OF RETURNS, IRS SAYS

A Buxton man has been indicted on three counts of failing to file federal income tax returns.

Leon Edgar Jennette, 60, is accused of not filing returns for a three-year period, from 1988 to 1990. The indictment was entered in U.S. District Court in Raleigh on March 27.

Jennette failed to report gross income totaling more than $500,000 during that time, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

The Internal Revenue Service maintains Jennette earned $130,000 in gross income in 1989, about $186,000 in 1990, and $248,000 in 1991.

If convicted on all counts, Jennette could face a maximum sentence of three years in jail and a fine of $75,000.

Attempts to reach Jennette were unsuccessful. by CNB
