CPO Joseph Paul Gaudreau, USN (Ret.), 63, of the 3500 block of Kingman Ave., died Thursday, April 13, 1995, in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
He was born in Waltham, Mass., and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and loyal, well respected friend to all.
He served in the US Navy as a marine machinist mechanic, and retired in 1973 as a chief petty officer after 23 years of service. Following his retirement from the Navy, he went to work at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 38, as a marine machinist mechanic, where he worked until his retirement in 1993. Due to his diligent and dedicated attitude toward his occupation he received a multitude of commendations and awards of recognition for outstanding work from the shipyard's command. He was a member of the Portsmouth Elks Lodge No. 82 and the Fleet Reserve of Portsmouth.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Fr. Edward L. Richardson. The family will be at Cox Funeral Home, Norfolk, on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. for visitation and at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bittinger, 700 Westover Ave., Norfolk, at all other times. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
