NELSON I. FOOKS

Col. (U.S. Army ret) Nelson I. Fooks, 88, of Williamsburg died on Thursday April 13, 1995 at Williamsburg Community Hospital.

Col. Fooks was born in Preston, Md. and was a 1927 graduate of the United States Military Academy. He was the widower of Meta S. Shackelford.

A distinguished 30-year career officer in the United States Army, Col. Fooks was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Combat Infantryman's Badge.

After retirement in 1957, he was for 12 years a Senior Director for the Human Resource and Research Organization of George Washington University.

Col. Fooks was a member of the Middle Plantation Club of Williamsburg, Va., West Point Society of The Peninsula, a former vestryman of Bruton Parish, and a charter member of the Williamsburg chapter Sons of The American Revolution.

He is survived by his daughters, Meta F. Rickard of Columbus, Ga. and Mary B. Whittemore of Castine, Maine; and son, Robert N. Fooks of Charlottesville, Va.; his sisters, S. Virginia Fooks of Williamsburg, Va. and Nell F. Myers of San Diego, Ca.; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday April 17, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, Cismont, Va. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the Church Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be on Tuesday April 18, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. in Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Williamsburg Landing Landscape Fund, 5700 Williamsburg Landing Dr., Williamsburg, Virginia 23185.

Bucktrout of Williamsburg is in charge of the arrangements.
