I am the mother of three very upset and bewildered children. I am sure the impact of the articles by Francie Latour and Kerry DeRochi about the vice mayor of Chesapeake has had quite an impact on all the families involved.
In particular, my 12-year-old daughter, Colleen, is very distraught and confided to me that she took calls from Sandra Lewis for her dad on numerous occasions. She said Ms. Lewis also questioned her about her dad's whereabouts.
This seems to be in direct conflict with Ms. Lewis' allegations that Mr. Dwyer was the pursuer.
I feel that The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star should spend more time printing the accomplishments of the current City Council and leave the members' personal lives and families alone.
I would also like to say that Colleen and her brothers have sacrificed many hours away from their dad and that they are proud of his service to the city of Chesapeake.
Gayle M. Dwyer String of farces
Aptly designated Vice Mayor Arthur L. Dwyer demonstrates the degree to which our local Republican Party is a travesty to much of what the national party upholds as principled positions.
Mr. Dwyer's problem is but the latest in a string of farces played out before the voting public.
Consider our first popularly elected mayor - a Republican with other ``firsts'' in addition to that one: the first mayor to be indicted and the first mayor sentenced to prison.
Then there was the Republican candidate who had been defrauding the city of taxes and the one who owed business, personal and property taxes in arrears for so many years.
Mr. Dwyer is a vain, not to say, arrogant man who found these footsteps an easy path to follow.
Were he merely mortal his weakness might be understood. He is, instead, given to engaging in nose-to-nose displays of superior virtue, a weakness requiring much of council-watchers.
The extent to which Sandra Lewis led Mr. Dwyer down the path he walked is the subject of debate. But he has revealed himself in this situation to be not only a braggart full of callow pomposity, but possessed of contemptible character as well.

As a member of Chesapeake Wildlife Response, I would like to say thank you to the Chesapeake Animal Control Bureau.
Not only do they respond to domestic pet calls, but they also help with wildlife concerns.
I have asked for their help on several occasions, and they have responded quickly and courteously. In this sometimes-uncaring world, the Chesapeake Animal Control Bureau is a definite asset to the people of Chesapeake.

I would like to thank the fire department on Dock Landing Road for prompt assistance when a family member was ill recently. The firefighters arrived within six minutes of the call and were courteous and very helpful. We are very grateful for these fine helpers in our time of need.
