The Edenton-Holmes High School baseball team jumped out to a 2-0 conference record early last week, due in part to one pitcher who has showed Northeastern Conference hitters he is for real.
Sophomore Clell Morgan tossed a no-hitter for a 6-0 win over Southeast Halifax and came back last Tuesday for a 6-5 five-hit win over Roanoke Rapids. The Aces have won three games all year and Morgan has pitched them all.
Morgan faced 22 batters in the gem against the Trojans. He struck out nine, walked two, and one batter reached on an error. He picked a runner off base. He threw just 94 pitches.
``He had good control of his fastball and breaking ball,'' said Edenton head coach Robert Woodley. ``He has lots of potential. He has won our three games and caught the other three.
``Clell is considered to be the ace of our staff and as a sophomore he is going to get better as time goes on,'' Woodley added. ``He's not overpowering but he is beginning to learn to spot his pitches.''
Morgan struck out six and walked two in the win over Roanoke Rapids.
As a freshman, Morgan won three of Edenton's six victories last year. by CNB
