David Lawrence ``Dave'' Hoggard Sr., 83, of the 1500 block of Bond St., a retired postal clerk, died of an accident April 13, 1995, in Norfolk.
Mr. Hoggard was born in Norfolk. He retired from Norfolk Post Office, was the widower of Thelma Drew Hoggard and a member of Grace Episcopal Church, former vestryman and senior choir member. He was a member of Hiawatha Social and Savings Club, Bachelor Benedicts, Retired Men's Leisure Club, Brambleton Senior Citizens and Plum Line Ministries. He was the first black post office clerk.
Survivors include a son, Mr. David Lawrence Hoggard Jr. of Richmond, Va.; a grandchild, Michael McCaleb Hoggard of Richmond; daughter-in-law, Clara M. Hoggard of Richmond; nephews, Allen Brown, Robert Brown and Wendell Brown, all of Norfolk; and many other relatives and friends including three devoted, Mrs. Rae Boone, Iris Cooper and Mrs. Minnie Jordan.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Episcopal Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Harold J. Cobb. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Family and friends will assemble at 1501 Bond St. at 1 p.m. for the procession to the church.
