SOLOMON B. MIZROCH

Solomon B. Mizroch, M.D. ``Colonel United States Army Reserve, Retired'', 85, of the 6900 block of Chironna Place, a retired physician, died April 14, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.

Dr. Mizroch was a native of Lithuania, and was a resident of Norfolk since 1923. He was a 1928 graduate of Maury High School, and a graduate of the University of Virginia and it's Medical School in 1936. He performed his internship at St. Vincent DePaul Hospital in Norfolk and his residency at Jersey City Medical Center and the New York City Cancer Institute. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army serving his country in North Africa and on many crossings on the hospital ship, U.S. Louis A. Milne.

Following his discharge from active duty, Dr. Mizroch remained in the Army reserves and attained the rank of full Colonel until his retirement in 1969. He went into private practice in 1946 and retired in 1980. He was a pioneer in cancer advanced techniques, such as Radium therapy and X-ray. He was the former Chief of Staff at Norfolk Community Hospital, a member of the staff of Norfolk General, Leigh, and DePaul hospitals, and a honorary member of the Sentara Hospitals staff. He is a member of Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk, Va.

Dr. Mizroch was a member of the American Medical Association, the Virginia Medical Association, The New York State Medical Society, the Norfolk Academy of Medicine, The Thomas Jefferson Society, and the Alumni Association. He was certified by the board and was a member of the American College of Radiology, Commander of the Military Order of the World Wars, a member and former President of the Meadowbrook Forest Civic League, and was it's present Chaplain. He was also a former member of the Civitan Club.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Muriel Gottheimer Mizroch; a daughter, Sally Ann Mizroch of Seattle, Wash.; two sons, A. Daniel Mizroch and his wife, Alicia, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., John F. Mizroch and his wife, Martha, of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren, Zachary, Allison, Elliott, Brandon and Marissa; and several nephews including Larry Kurtz, and his friend Nevin Wian.

A Temple service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Ohef Sholom Temple by Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman. A private burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Ohef Sholom Temple, Beth Sholom Home, Jewish Family Service, or the charity of the donor's choice. The family will receive friends at the residence. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, will be handling the arrangements.
