COLLECTORS' CORNER

The Norfolk Tides' new manager is a familiar figure among card collectors.

Toby Harrah is the subject of at least 30 regular-issue baseball cards. Additionally, he appears on more than 60 regional and specialty cards. Identifying and gathering all of the Harrah items produced between 1972 and 1987 can be a challenge worthy of the most diligent hobbyist.

Fortunately, a Harrah-collecting project is an inexpensive one.

The most costly Harrah cards are in the $2-$3 range. This includes his rookie card (1972 Topps No. 104), the obscure 1984 Nestle card (No. 348) and the 1975-76 Hostess Twinkie panels.

Many who follow the Tides enjoy finding cards of the team's ``hottest rookies'' and major-league prospects; hobbyists can add a new dimension to their collections by assembling a group of Toby Harrah collectibles. MEMO: Brian L. Bigelow is store manager and appraiser for Candl Coins &
