Mary Eileen Raiss, 79, of the 1000 block of Hampton Boulevard, died April 16, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Raiss was a native of New York, N.Y. She was the widow of George W. Raiss. She worked for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority for 11 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach and was a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Gregory's.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret R. Atwood, and her husband, William of Moorestown, N.J.; one son, George Raiss, and his wife, Martha, of Norfolk; three grandchildren, David Atwood of New York City, Marella Atwood of Philadelphia, Pa., and John Atwood of Moorestown, N.J.; and two step-grandchildren, Martha E. Watson and Christopher B. Watson, both of Norfolk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 1995, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father John J. Dorgan. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. There will be a Christian wake service at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer's Association or the Legion of Mary at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
