ACCIDENT KILLS 2

Two people were killed and two others seriously injured early Sunday when two cars collided on Route 14 just east of the Route 657 intersection.

Germaine Page, 19, of Mathews and Sharon Williams, 58, of Midlothian died when the car Page was driving collided with the car in which Williams was a front-seat passenger.

Injured were David E. Dzula, 40, and Karen R. Baulbaugh, 37. Both are residents of Newport News and were taken by air ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Tammy Van Dame, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, said that Page was driving a 1982 Buick Regal about 12:18 a.m. Sunday when he tried to pass another vehicle on the two-lane divided highway. Page's car struck, head-on, a 1993 Mercury Sable driven by Baulbaugh. Dzula was a passenger with Williams in the Sable.

``The state police believe there is a possibility that alcohol was a contributing factor, but the investigation is continuing,'' Van Dame said.

Neither of the people killed was wearing a seat belt, Van Dame said.

Hosital officials said Sunday that Dzula was still in the Sentara Norfolk General trauma unit. Baulbaugh was in stable condition at the hospital.
