ARGUMENT TURNS DEADLY

A 32-year-old Hampton man was shot to death late Saturday night after he and an acquaintance argued.

Robert C. Paige of 992 N. King St. was pronounced dead at Sentara Hampton General Hospital at 10:45 p.m. Saturday.

Police arrested Andre D. Hammond, 25, of the 300 block of Union St. early Sunday morning and charged him with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Hampton police spokesman Donnie Moore said Paige and Hammond knew each other and reportedly had argued shortly before Paige was shot in the torso with a small-caliber handgun. The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. in the parking lot of the apartment complex where Paige lived.

Police have not recovered the handgun, Moore said.
