SIGNS TRAFFIC HAZARD

Norfolk City Council, once again, has demonstrated its ineptitude in favor of special interests.

The proposal for the electronic sign for Waterside Drive should have been voted down. An ordinance forbidding electronic signs throughout the city should have been enacted in its place.

Common sense dictates that signs with ever-changing messages are a distraction to drivers and present major traffic hazards. Our supposedly knowledgeable leaders have failed to mention this risk to safety.

The establishment of a commission to make the decision is a buck-passing ploy by City Council to get itself off the hook and not promote disfavor among special-interest groups.
