Mary Eileen Sullivan Raiss, 79, of the 1000 block of Hampton Blvd., died April 16, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Raiss, a native of New York City, was the widow of George W. Raiss. She worked for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority for 11 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach and was a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Gregory's.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret R. Atwood and her husband, William, of Moorestown, N.J.; one son, George Raiss and his wife, Martha, of Norfolk; three grandchildren, David Atwood of New York City, Marella Atwood of Philadelphia, Pa., John Atwood of Moorestown, N.J.; and two stepgrandchildren, Martha E. Watson and Christopher B. Watson, both of Norfolk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father John J. Dorgan. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, at 7:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer's Association or the Legion of Mary at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
