JOSEPH R. BROOKS SR.

Joseph R. Brooks Sr., ``Daddy Joe,'' of the 7400 block of Diven St., died Saturday, April 15, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mr. Brooks was born in Norfolk County and was son of the late Frank and Susan Brooks and widower of his beloved wife, the late Elizabeth W. Brooks. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he was a trustee for more than 50 years. He was retired after 40 years of service with the Naval Supply Center as a transportation driver. He was also an Army veteran of World War I.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Joseph R. Brooks Jr. of Port Charlotte, Fla., and James H. Brooks of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Elsie B. Boone and Joseph R. Brooks III, better known as ``Pop,'' Albert G. Brooks and Barrington D. Brooks; six great-grandchildren, Jeffrey T. Boone, Jacqueline C. Boone, Elsie B. Thompson, Joseph R. Brooks, Albert G. Brooks Jr. and Kenneth R. Brooks; three great-great-grandchildren, Shantia, Christopher and Avery; one daughter-in-law, Laura Brooks; and numerous devoted friends and neighbors.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. James H. Harris. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
