FAIR TO RAISE AWARENESS OF CHILD ABUSE

The second annual United Against Child Abuse Resource Fair and Fun Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mount Trashmore Park.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to be entertained and educated through the various stage shows and speakers scheduled.

Numerous child advocacy groups will be represented at the fair, including In Support of Children, Hampton Roads Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Child Abuse Preventive Services, Friends of the Norfolk Juvenile Court, the CANDII program, Safe Place, CASA, Navy Family Services, Samaritan House, Seton House and several others.

The Emmy award-winning Spectrum Puppets will perform, and there will be pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, moonwalk, live music and costumed characters to entertain the kids.

Mayor Meyera E. Oberndorf and state Sen. Clarence A. Holland will be the keynote speakers. Holland will speak at 1:45 p.m. on child abuse prevention and children's rights through his eyes as a legislator and a physician while Oberndorf will share at 1 p.m. what she has learned about children's rights through her travels around the country and world.

The fair, which will conclude with a moment of silence for the victims of child abuse, is sponsored by In Support of Children at Old Dominion University, the city and the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. by CNB
