The Spirit of Smithfield is looking for rafters to participate in the annual Pagan River Raft Race at 3 p.m. May 28.
The race course will be from Wharf Hill to Smithfield Station.
Registration fee is $10 per entry. Each entry will receive two Pagan River Raft T-shirts. Entry forms can be picked up from the Old Courthouse Visitors Center on Main Street in Smithfield, Smithfield Station in Smithfield and the Isle of Wight Parks and Recreation offices at Nike Park in Carrollton.
The first division, for rafts, stresses that all craft must be homemade, with no marine-related pre-manufactured components, and all rafts must use a human-power propulsion system. Motorized propulsion and oar locks are not allowed.
In the dinghy/inflatable division, craft may contain pre-manufactured marine components and can be modified in any fashion to accommodate the race. Only human propulsion is allowed.
Winners of each division will receive: First place, $100 and a trophy; second place, $75 and a trophy; third place, $50 and a trophy. A Most Creative Design Award trophy also will be awarded.
Registration deadline is 5 p.m. May 24 by official registration form only. A captain's meeting is also scheduled for 2 p.m. at the launch site on Wharf Hill.
