In response to publication April 18 of an April 3 letter to the editor pleading for emergency aid for military families evacuated from Guantanamo Bay: The Public Affairs Office of the commander in chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet writes:
1. Funding for the support of families evacuated from Guantanamo Bay Naval Base . . . was included in the Department of Defense Supplemental Appropriations Bill, passed on April 5 and retroactive to March 5. President Clinton signed the bill on April 10.
2. The Department of the Navy and the commander in chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, strongly supported inclusion of this funding in the bill, and remain committed to the welfare of these families. by CNB
