Charles G. Monroe, 78, of the 1100 block of Belvoir Lane, died April 19, 1995, in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
Mr. Monroe was born in Carthage, N.C. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and was also retired from civil service with a total of 40 years of service. He was a retired chief petty officer, having served his country during World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of Fleet Reserve.
Survivors include his wife, Inez B. Monroe; a daughter, Gail Young of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, the Rev. Kerry Ryan Young, Sherry Lynn Jones and Craig Allen Young; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall/Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Kerry Ryan Young and the Rev. Roger Bisson. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 pm. today.
