WORKING TO PREVENT ABUSE

ILLUSTRATION: The Virginia Beach Junior Women's Club recently gave $1,750 to

the Child Abuse Center to buy anatomically correct dolls, a

dollhouse and puppets to be used in treating and interviewing

victims of child abuse and molestation. April is Child Abuse

Prevention Month. In addition, the club donated another $250 to help

decorate the center's Norfolk offices. Other organizations receiving

donations from the club include the Police Athletic League, the Care

Program, Freddy the Firetruck and Kidshow. The 25-member club raises

the money at its annual fund-raiser, a craft show at Pavilion each

October. Pictured with some of the toys are (from left) Lee Ann

Breedlove, president of the club, Janie Stein, director of the Child

Abuse Center and Lynn Bernard, of the club's public affairs and

safety committee.
