SEAN S. SHARPE

Sean Sebastian Sharpe, 28, of the 600 block of South St., surrendered to eternal life on Easter Sunday morning, April 16, 1995.

He was born May 3, 1966, to Ms. Corrie-Ann Sharpe and Mr. Daniel C. Kellum Sr. in Charleston, S.C. Sean accepted Christ at an early age and attended the House of God Church For All People. He later attended Grace AME Church, where he sang in the church choir.

Sean graduated from Beaufort High School in Beaufort, S.C. Highly valuing education, Sean continued his studies at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), Elizabeth City, N.C., where he majored in Music and Related Arts. At ECSU Sean was very active in the music department. He served as President of the ECSU Concert Choir and was a featured soloist in the Collegiate IMA competition. He was also a member of the ECSU Marching Band.

Upon graduating from ECSU, Sean worked as a substitute teacher, counselor and recreational coordinator for the Pines Residential Treatment Center. When the Master called him home, Sean was working as a student assistance counselor at Woodrow Wilson High School.

Sean's work attests to his fervent belief in youth and his desire to help them make positive choices. He worked with the Youth Risk Prevention Program, Rites of Passage Program, Male Mentorship Program, Outdoor Based Adventure Program and the At Rish Programs at Cradock Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School. In 1992 the At Risk Program at the former Alf J. Mapp Junior High School, currently known as Cradock Middle, received national recognition for the outstanding work being done at Mapp with Sean serving as the facilitator of the program.

Sean was an energetic young man who held membership in the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Portsmouth Pan-Hellenic Council, and he was also a former member of the I. Sherman Greene Chorale.

Sean was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Corrie-Ann Sharpe, and by his grandmother, Mrs. Alma Sharpe. Survivors include his father, Daniel C. Kellum Sr. of Louisville, Ky.; a half-brother, Daniel C. Kellum Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn.; a host of other relatives, loyal and loving friends, fraternity brothers, co-workers and students.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, in Grace AME Church in Beaufort, S.C. Burial will be in Sixteen Gate Cemetery. The body was conveyed from Fisher Funeral Home to Marshell's, Wright, Donaldson Funeral Home, Beaufort.
