Lillian Swinson Martin, 74, of the 2600 block of N. Nansemond Drive, died April 20, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mrs. Martin, a native of Tarboro, N.C., was a retired beautician and a registered cosmetologist. She was a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church, Portsmouth, Ester Sunday School Class, and was a former superintendent of the Beginners Dept. and the College and Career Dept. She was a past president of the Portsmouth Woman's Club and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Tidal Wave Chapter (NU)9.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph W. Martin Sr.; a son, Joseph W. Martin Jr. of Suffolk; a sister, Marjorie S. Askew of Suffolk; a brother, Dr. John L. Swinson Jr. of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Port Norfolk Baptist Church by the Rev. Ector L. Hamrick. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Port Norfolk Baptist Church Improvement Fund.
