MISSING PAT MURPHY

I am a native Virginian who has kept the radio tuned to WTAR for the past 45 years. In fact, if Captain Midnight, Terry and the Pirates, and Jack Armstrong, All-American Boy were aired on that station, I have been tuned in for even longer.

The Pat Murphy Show was one I found particularly appealing because it was about my native Virginia. Pat had news and issues from all parts of the Old Dominion and drew us all together. Even if you didn't agree with some of the things he said, at least he got you thinking.

Friends would call and ask, ``Did you hear what Pat said?'' and a conversation was born. People called their duly appointed representatives because of things they learned on Pat's show, and instructed them as to how they, the people of Virginia, wanted things to be.

Now I understand we are to have a man from New York in that time slot. I think you can see from my comments what a disservice I feel that will be to our state.

I realize this has been done because there were not enough sponsors for the Pat Murphy Show. I'll give Don Imus a listen. But if he doesn't keep at least as high a caliber program as Pat, I'll express my displeasure by boycotting the products of the sponsors who put him on the air. I guess that's what comes from everything being put on a dollar basis.
