Leon McCoy Brinkley Sr., 74, of the 300 block of Benton Road, died April 20, 1995, in Obici Hospital.
Born in Nansemond County, Va., he was a retired tea processor for the Lipton Tea Company. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church. He was a deacon, and his church activities included Men's Bible Class, member of the Cemetery Committee and Board of Ushers.
He retired after 22 years of service as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Benton Brinkley; two daughters, Jenny B. Pearce and Vanessa B. Rodgers, both of Suffolk; two sons, Leon M. Brinkley Jr. of Princeton, Ky., and Michael Brinkley of Portsmouth; one sister, Margaret B. Overman of Suffolk, Va.; three brothers, Joe Brinkley, Lewis Brinkley and Cecil Brinkley, all of Suffolk; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Saturday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. in Liberty Spring Christian Church, the Revs. Kenneth E. Pepper, Joseph A. Talley and William A. Grissom presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Graxton Pearce, 315 Benton Road in Suffolk.
