THIS WEEKEND'S EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES

Hampton Roads' biggest Earth Day celebrations won't happen until Sunday, May 7, when Norfolk and Virginia Beach host their annual bash at Norfolk's Town Point Park. Here's a list of Earth Day activities this weekend.

TODAY

National Earth Day Rally, 11 a.m., The Mall, Washington. Performances by Boyz II Men, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kenny Loggins, and Toad the Wet Sprocket. Events include Earth Day presentations by environmental organizations. (202) 232-0001.

Celebrate Earth Day, today and Sunday, Virginia Living Museum, 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News. Featuring crafts, activities, live animal shows, exhibits and more. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. 595-1900.

Earth Eco-Fair, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Virginia Air and Space Center/Hampton Roads History Center, 600 Settlers Landing Road, Hampton. Events include hands-on fun and special presentations and displays. Exhibits concerning history, adventure and space. Permanent collections include Samuel P. Langley's Great Aerodrome, Apollo 12 Command Capsule and 10 aircraft and spacecraft. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. 727-0900.

Earth Day Activities, Virginia Marine Science Museum, 717 General Booth Blvd., Virginia Beach. 437-4949. Representatives from the Center for Conservation Biology, Tomorrow's World, and Sierra Club will have display tables. Special programs include ``Indians - the First Recyclers.'' Also, there will be crafts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

March for Parks. Start walking between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. today and Sunday in Yorktown. Benefits Colonial National Historical Park. 851-1829. Also, 10 a.m. today at Northside Park, 8400 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk. 441-2149.

SUNDAY

Earth Day Celebrations, puppet workshop at 1:30 p.m., Art Safari Tour at 2:30 p.m., and movie ``Once Upon A Forest'' at 3:30 p.m., Chrysler Museum, Olney Road and Mowbray Arch, Norfolk.
